Welcome back to The Dynasty Report, your home for everything happening across our college football dynasty! Today, we’ve got a special guest joining us. He’s a coach who has taken on a new challenge in Pullman, Washington, and has the Washington State Cougars making some noise nationally. Please welcome Washington State head coach Jack Fletcher! Coach, thanks for joining us!

Jack Fletcher

Hey, I appreciate you having me on! Always a pleasure to talk some football. It’s been a heck of a journey so far, and I’m excited about what we’re building out here in Pullman.

Mark Reynolds

Coach, I want to start with your decision to leave Troy and take the Washington State job. What went into that decision?

Jack Fletcher

You know, leaving Troy wasn’t easy. We had built something special there, and I had a lot of respect for those players and that community. But when Washington State called, I saw an opportunity. This is a program with tremendous potential, a passionate fan base, and a lot of people hungry to win. I wanted to be part of bringing that excitement back to Pullman.

Mark Reynolds

And now here we are, with Washington State breaking into the national rankings. Did you expect this kind of success so early?

Jack Fletcher

(Laughs) Well, I’ll tell you this. I didn’t take this job expecting to lose football games! But seriously, I knew we had talent. What I didn’t know was how quickly these guys would buy into what we were trying to accomplish. They’ve worked their tails off, and seeing that national ranking next to Washington State is a reward for their hard work. But we’re nowhere near satisfied.

Mark Reynolds

You mentioned the players buying in. What’s been the biggest change you’ve made since arriving?

Jack Fletcher

Accountability. That’s number one. Whether you’re the starting quarterback or the last guy on the depth chart, everybody is held to the same standard. We’re going to practice hard, prepare the right way, and compete every single Saturday. Talent wins you some games, but culture is what sustains a program.

Mark Reynolds

Coach, let’s talk about the rankings. When you saw Washington State officially ranked, what was your reaction?

Jack Fletcher

I was proud, obviously. But I’ll be honest with you, my first thought was, “Alright, now we’ve got a target on our backs.” (Laughs) Nobody’s overlooking Washington State anymore. Teams are going to give us their best shot. And that’s exactly what we want. If you want to become one of the best programs in the country, you’ve got to embrace that pressure.

Mark Reynolds

Now, I’ve got to ask you about the other coaches in this dynasty. We’ve got Ron Cherry at Marshall and Jackson Harrison at Delaware. Are you keeping an eye on what those guys are doing?

Jack Fletcher

Oh, absolutely! Listen, those guys can coach football. I’ve got a lot of respect for both of them. But don’t get me wrong, I’m competitive. If we’re talking about who’s building the best program, I’m putting my money on Washington State every single time!

Mark Reynolds

(Laughs) So you’re saying you’re the best coach of the three?

Jack Fletcher

Hey, I didn’t say that! You’re trying to get me in trouble! (Laughs) Look, Ron and Jackson are doing their thing, and I’m doing mine. But if we end up across from each other on a football field, there aren’t going to be any friendships for those sixty minutes.

Mark Reynolds

That’s what we love to hear! Now, let’s talk about the expectations. Is making a bowl game enough for Washington State this season?

Jack Fletcher

No. And I say that with all due respect to what making a bowl game means. We’re not building this program just to be happy with six or seven wins. We want to compete for championships. Now, does that happen overnight? No. But you’ve got to establish that expectation from day one.

Mark Reynolds

What do you think is the biggest obstacle standing between Washington State and becoming a legitimate national championship contender?

Jack Fletcher

Consistency. Anybody can play one great game. The elite programs do it week after week. We’ve got to continue recruiting, developing our players, and building depth. The teams that win championships aren’t just talented at the top. They’re talented throughout the roster.

Mark Reynolds

Coach, before we let you go, I’ve got one final question. If you could send one message to Washington State fans listening to The Dynasty Report, what would it be?

Jack Fletcher

I’d tell them to keep believing in this program. Keep showing up, keep making Martin Stadium a difficult place for opponents to play, and keep supporting these young men. We’re building something special here, and I genuinely believe the best days of Washington State football are ahead of us. We’re just getting started.

Mark Reynolds

Coach Jack Fletcher, everybody! Coach, thank you so much for joining us, and best of luck the rest of the season!

Jack Fletcher

Appreciate you having me! Go Cougs!

Mark Reynolds

There you have it, folks. Washington State head coach Jack Fletcher joining us for an exclusive conversation. You can hear the confidence in his voice, and one thing is clear: this coach has his sights set much higher than simply making a bowl game.

Mark Reynolds

We’ll continue following Washington State, Marshall, Delaware, and the rest of the college football landscape right here on The Dynasty Report.

Mark Reynolds

Until next time, thanks for listening, and we’ll see you on the next episode!
